A BARRHEAD man with no previous convictions launched a violent assault on his estranged wife’s partner by striking him over the head with a brick and punching him repeatedly on the head.

Daniel Williamson, 37, of Sunnyside Place, Barrhead, appeared in court earlier this week to admit assaulting his love rival on October 19 last year.

As well as throwing a brick at the victim, he repeatedly punched him on the head, to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Fiscal depute Sarah Healing told Dumbarton Sheriff Court that the victim was the partner of Williamson’s estranged wife.

She added: “They were still married but separated for two years prior to the incident.

“The accused and victim had not met.”

The attack took place in Clydebank after Williamson had arranged to pick up his kids from his estranged wife and take them to a football match.

Sentence was deferred until August 2 for background reports to be obtained.

Williamson’s bail was continued.
