SWITCHED-ON students at St Luke’s High tasted success at an awards ceremony after delivering “social change” in their community.

Pupils at the Barrhead school won a Social Enterprise in Education Award for their Sweet Sensations and Delicious Delights initiatives – which involved offering handmade bath products and home baking to classmates, family and friends.

Profits went to anti-poverty charity SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund).

The entrepreneurial St Luke’s pupils were invited to an awards ceremony at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh where they collected a certificate marking their achievements.

Angela Constance, Scottish Government secretary for communities, attended the ceremony.

She said: “The Social Enterprise in Education Awards recognise the innovation, social conscience and entrepreneurial spirit that is present in our schools across Scotland.

“I’m delighted the next generation of social entrepreneurs are being showcased and celebrated in this way and it gives me great hope for a flourishing future for social enterprise in Scotland.

“Our commitment to social enterprise in Scotland is long-standing and the Scottish Government will continue to support this important work which aims to put social enterprise education in every school across the country.”

More than 200 schools ignited their entrepreneurial talent over the past academic year to set up mini-businesses in a bid to tackle social issues.
