THE carnival rolled into Barrhead over the Bank Holiday weekend, with parents and children enjoying all the fun of the fair, writes David Carnduff.

Bosses at the town’s Tesco store staged the event in their car park to coin in cash for various good causes, including the Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

And it was a big success, with around £2,000 being raised.

As well as a host of carnival rides, there were a number of games and stalls, as well as a food court to make sure no-one went hungry.

Among those who went along were pupils from St Mark’s Primary School, in Barrhead, who were invited to attend as guests of the store.

The event was organised and led by Tesco’s local community champions Nicola McCabe and Tracey Smith, with support from Cancer Research volunteers, including Julie Howie and Louise Gray.

Store manager Sean McCarter was delighted with the success of the event.

He said: “It was the first community initiative the store has run since I became manager. There was a great community spirit and it was great to be able to show to the community how the store is helping to raise money for charities in the area.

“I have no doubt it will be repeated and I would like to see a similar event held at the store later in the year.

“Hopefully, we can get similar weather that we had over the Bank Holiday weekend, which made all the difference to the numbers which joined us and allowed them to have so much fun.”
