VOLUNTEERS at the newly-opened Barrhead Cats Protection Hub have hailed the organisation’s launch event as a ‘purr-fect’ success.

Cat owners in the town will now be able to stop by its base at the Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire offices should they have any queries or need help from a like-minded and fully-qualified member of staff.

The Cats Protection Giffnock branch is overseeing the project’s opening weeks in Barrhead.

While opening times and a full-time rota have yet to be finalised, organisers of the launch event are confident residents will make good use of the facility.

Karen Minnery, branch co-ordinator for Barrhead Cats Protection Hub, said: “This community-based voluntary hub will give members of the public the opportunity to come in and find out about the work our volunteers are doing.

“They can find out who we are and how we find forever homes for abandoned cats and kittens, help all owners to get kits to neuter their own cats and stage many other fundraising and educational activities.

“We don’t have opening times yet but we’ll draw up a rota soon.

“Look up our Facebook page, see what we do and come along to the office.

“We also sell a good range of Cats Protection merchandise, if you want to buy a gift for a cat lover.”

Volunteers welcomed councillor Kenny Hay along to the launch event to cut the ribbon and officially open the new branch.
