A LEADING charity is calling on Barrhead residents to join the fight against heart disease by wearing red as part of its Wear it, Beat It campaign.
The British Heart Foundation wants to end the devastation caused by heart disease by funding around £100 million of cutting-edge research each year.
In Scotland alone, it currently funds around £63 million of research into various projects, including a study into a new test that can more accurately detect whether someone is having a heart attack, so they can get the urgent treatment they need without delay.
By signing up to the Wear it, Beat it event on June 9, volunteers can help power more lifesaving discoveries.
Everyone who takes part will receive a free fundraising kit containing ‘reddy-made’ ideas.
Adrian Adams, of the British Heart Foundation, told the News: “We are calling on the people of Barrhead and East Renfrewshire to help us make Wear it, Beat it the biggest, reddest and best year yet.
“By joining thousands of people in wearing red and hosting a red-themed fundraising event, they will help us fund more pioneering research to support the seven million UK people living with heart and circulatory disease.”
