POLICE are continuing their appeal for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in Barrhead.

The 57-year-old was attacked by a man in a wooded area between Main Street and Cross Arthurlie Street some time between 10pm on Friday, March 10 and 10pm on Saturday, March 11.

Although the woman was not physically injured during the incident, she was left badly shaken.

The suspect is described as tall and well-built with a beard.

The direction he made off in is not known.

Officers investigating the sexual assault have called on anyone who was in the area, or who may have witnessed anything suspicious, to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Graeme McLachlan, who is based at Greater Glasgow Public Protection Unit, said: "This was obviously a very traumatic incident for anyone to endure and as such I urge anyone who can provide information that could assist our investigation to contact police immediately.

"Did you see this man hanging around the area or see him following a woman into the wooded area between Main Street and Cross Arthurlie Street?"

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "No arrest has been made in relation to this incident and enquiries are ongoing."
