SPRING has sprung at a Barrhead church, where a fundraising event raised a blooming marvellous sum of cash to help people with life-limiting illnesses.

Bourock Parish Church was packed for a spring fayre held in aid of the ACCORD and St Vincent’s hospices.

A host of stalls offered a multitude of goodies for guests of all ages.

From jewellery and groceries to home baking and books, organisers made sure there was something to suit everyone.

Plans were put in place for the event months ago by congregation members who wanted to do something to support the two charities.

St Vincent’s Hospice, in Howwood, provides end-of-life care through specialist staff support.

And Paisley-based ACCORD offers palliative assistance to men and women from across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

A significant portion of the funds generated by the Saturday, March 18 fundraiser will go towards supporting the two hospices.

Elizabeth McKenzie, a member of the congregation at Bourock Parish Church, said: “We raised £1,732 in total, which we were really pleased with.

“Half of the proceeds go to the church and the other half will go to the two hospices.

“A lot of organisations worked together for the spring fayre, with Brownies, Guides, the Boys’ Brigade and adult organisations all involved.

“The hall was opened at 11am and, by half-past, it was really full. We had a tearoom at the other end, which was kept busy.”

Elizabeth added: “Members of the craft club had made some things for the fayre and people in the congregation handed in items. We had a grocery stall, we had home baking and we sold everything.

“We also had a bottle stall and others selling jewellery, toiletries, toys and books.

“Thanks go to everyone who was involved or supported us.”
