A BARRHEAD woman is to open a music school in her home town to give talented youngsters the chance to shine.

Diane Mitchell, who already teaches musicians at a studio in Paisley’s Brick Lane, will be bringing classes to the area where she was brought up this spring.

The weekly sessions will get under way on Saturday, April 22, and will initially take place at Barrhead Evangelical Church.

Once she has found a more permanent base, she will then run a school similar to her Paisley music academy.

Diane, a former pupil at Cross Arthurlie Primary and Barrhead High, said: “Growing up, there was never really a music school for children to go to and, even now, it’s only really private lessons that are on offer.

“I have never seen anything like this before in the area, so I feel that it will really benefit the town.

“I will run musical tots and musicianship classes, plus guitar and piano lessons, at the temporary base.

“When the school grows and I secure permanent premises, I am looking to offer the huge range of classes that are currently on offer at the Brick Lane school.”

Classes for children aged between one and four will run from 9.30am, with those aged between five and nine able to enjoy tuition from 10.30am.

There will then be piano and guitar lessons for the rest of the day.

Experts at the Business Gateway in Barrhead are helping Diane in her search to find premises that would be suitable for the new school.

“Barrhead is an up and coming town and is always busy, so I feel that it would be the perfect location for another school,” said Diane.

“There is nowhere that offers such a diverse range of lessons for kids but this will offer everything under one roof.

“I have many clients from Barrhead who come to the Paisley school already, so there is already an interest and they say it would be much more convenient for them.”
