A THOUGHTFUL 10-year-old who organised her own coffee morning for Down’s Syndrome Scotland has raised more than £2,700.

Little Olivia Martin opened the doors of her family home in Barrhead’s Woodside Crescent to scores of friends and relatives for raffles and refreshments in aid of a charity which the Martin family hold close to their hearts.

Olivia’s nine-year-old brother Ross is affected by the disorder and the St Mark’s Primary pupil was so determined to do her bit to help out, that she even offered to shave off her hair.

Though proud mum Amanda was touched by the offer, she suggested her daughter should organise a different kind of fundraising event instead which led to the idea of the coffee morning on April 30.

Amanda said: “She did great. It was really busy, the house was mobbed. She raised approximately £2,700 and we’re still waiting on a few donations coming in.

“There were loads of friends, family and neighbours there. We took all the leftover cakes to St John’s Church on the Sunday where she received even more donations. Olivia and I would like to say thank you to everyone who came and supported her.”

Olivia’s classmates Katie Baird and Louisa Dunn joined gran Maria Straiton as catering assistants on the day and served well over 60 guests.

Kerry Lindsay, fundraising manager at Down’s Syndrome Scotland, said: “We would like to say a massive well done to Olivia for all that she has done to support Down’s Syndrome Scotland.”
