A NEW sporting club is set to open in Barrhead next week.

It comes after Sporting Memories revealed they are opening a new club on Thursday, November 16, at the town's Community Hub in the Barrhead Centre.

Running weekly on a Thursday morning from 10.30am until 12.30pm, the community-based club will allow older people who like to make friends and connections in their local area to bond over a passion for sport.

The club, which is being set up by the charity and with the support of Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire, uses the power of remembering and talking about sport alongside physical activity to support older people aged 50 plus to live better lives

This includes those living with dementia, depression, or living in isolation and lovely circumstances.

While the club will allow locals to share their stories through memories, photographs, and quizzes, as well as get active and involved in a range of games, guests will also be able to have a cup of tea or coffee at half-time.

On top of looking for members for the club, the good cause is looking for volunteers to support or help run the clubs.

A spokesperson for Sporting Memories said: "We would very much welcome anyone interested in becoming a Session Supporter with us.

"A passion for sport isn't essential for helping to run our club in Barrhead but you will enjoy reminiscing with older adults and you'll love the banter and fun.

"We are looking for someone who enjoys talking with older adults and who will encourage our club members to get involved in the discussion.

"The Session Supporter helps to enable the smooth running of the club session and welcomes members as they arrive.

"You will be part of a team of volunteers providing this service for a couple of hours on a weekly basis."
