Business leaders from across East Renfrewshire were in good company as a prestigious awards ceremony took place.

More than 160 guests went along to the Dalmeny Park House Hotel, in Barrhead, for the 2019 East Renfrewshire Business Awards.

Elaine C Smith, one of Scotland’s best-known performers, hosted the event, which gives the local business community a well-earned chance to take centre stage.

Civil engineering firm George Leslie Ltd was named as East Renfrewshire’s Best Business.

Meanwhile, there were two awards for the Greenhouse community interest company, which supports people with learning difficulties, as it won the Community Impact and Developing East Renfrewshire’s Young Workforce categories.

Winner of the Family Business Award was I-Kick Martial Arts Ltd, with the Best Home-Based Business prize going to Articulate (Scotland) Limited.

Also tasting success were Speedy Freight, which was honoured for Excellence in Customer Service, and Shanta Residential, which was named Most Promising New Business.

The award for Best New Product or Service went to Pure Lubrication Limited.

The event, hosted by East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, also raised more than £2,000 for local charity Cure Crohn’s Colitis.

Chamber president Laura Molloy said: “Thanks go to our finalists, who are shining examples of the entrepreneurial creativity and economic drive that have risen to the challenges of our times.

“These are the businesses who are transforming the business landscape in East Renfrewshire.

“We also thank our sponsors for their support, without which the awards would not be possible.”
Councillor Tony Buchanan, leader of East Renfrewshire Council, said the local authority was delighted to lend its support to the awards.

He added: “This important event helps to celebrate the good work of our local business community, which has a vital role to play in helping to grow the economy and create jobs.”
