A SERIES of events are taking place in Barrhead and Clarkston to mark Scottish Breastfeeding Awareness Week.

East Renfrewshire Council is co-ordinating a varied programme that provides help and advice to new parents, soon-to-be parents and carers.

Breastfeeding peer support will be available throughout today at Eastwood Health and Care Centre, in Clarkston, where the fun will include baby massage and craft activities, with people welcome to go along anytime between 9.30am and 12.30pm or 1.30pm and 3pm.

A similar event will take place at Barrhead Health and Care Centre at the same times tomorrow, with a Bookbug taster session also on the cards.

There will be further advice on breastfeeding available at Eastwood Health and Care Centre on Friday, from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

A spokesperson for East Renfrewshire Council told the Barrhead News: “UK legislation protects a mother’s right to breastfeed her child in any place that the child is allowed to be, without interruption or intrusion.

“East Renfrewshire Council and Health and Social Care Partnership welcome breastfeeding in all their buildings, places and spaces and have a policy to support this.”
