OUTRAGED council bosses blasted mindless vandals back in 2012 after a children’s playpark in Barrhead was torched.

More than £20,000 worth of damage was caused during the attack on Carlibar Park.

The green space was targeted by fireraising louts in an incident that was labelled “sickening” by police investigating the crime.

The blaze had reduced parts of the park to blackened lumps of molten plastic.

Climbing frames were destroyed, with other once-cherished play equipment also damaged.

In a separate incident, Albar Landscapes was also targeted in an arson attack, costing the business £9,000.

At the time, East Renfrewshire Council’s environment convener, Councillor Vincent Waters, said: “The wanton vandalism carried out at Carlibar Park is both disgraceful and inexcusable.”
