A TEACHING union has given its backing to school staff after figures revealed a spike in bullying reports at Renfrewshire’s schools.
The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) said teachers across the area were supportive of pupils and were aware of the potential impact bullying could have on pupils’ wellbeing.
And the union insisted teachers were well-aware of the threat of cyberbullying and are making efforts to educate pupils about the dangers of social media and online gaming.

A spokesman for the union told The Gazette: “Teachers are pro-active in challenging and dealing with pupil-to-pupil bullying and are very aware of the impact of bullying on the health and wellbeing of pupils.
“Teachers support pupils on an individual basis and also through social education programmes which encourage pupils to be respectful to each other at all times.

“Such programmes also educate pupils on how to deal with modern trends such as cyberbullying.”
