PREPARATIONS for the Neilston Cattle Show next month are now in full flow.

The historic event takes place Saturday, May 4, and this year’s activities are set to include show jumping, sheep dog trials, sheep shearing and horse and pony judging. 

The pet show will include baby goats, calves, baby rabbit, chicks, ducks and there will also be a pet lamb competition.

The RSPB will be offering the chance to see Kune Kune pigs, alpacas, hoots owls, Kelly Bronze turkeys and Shetland ponies close up.

The annual Neilston Tug “o” War competition always provides great entertainment for both the participants and the crowd, and for anyone who enjoys a bit of friendly competition, the Best Scarecrow contest offers prizes of £50, £30 and £20 for first, second and third place respectively.

The entry fee for the scarecrow competition is £8 and includes one free ticket to the show. Entries should be made no later than Thursday, May 2.

Admission to the show is £6 for adult s and £2 for children and pensioners. There is a £2 charge for the car park.

Originally focussing on agriculture, the show has developed into a community event, and promises to be fun for all the family.
