AN EAST Renfrewshire youth club is attempting a new world record in a bid to raise £100,000 to buy their own sports facility.

St Cadoc’s Youth Club in Newton Mearns will be challenging themselves to a gruelling 5000-mile run or walk, to be completed within 12 hours on Sunday, April 28 at Eastwood High School in the town.

And among the supporters are some familiar faces, including Scotland manager, Alex McLeish, internationalist Robert Snodgrass and Paul Masterton MP.

A spokesman for the club said: “The club’s aim is to give kids within the East Renfrewshire and surrounding area's an opportunity to enjoy and develop their football and netball skills in a safe and secure environment, with the full support and backing of our club coaches.”

St Cadoc’s now have over 900 kids across 12 different age groups, ranging from kids aged four, five and six, right through to under 21’s and have exhausted council facilities.

This means they now cannot deliver their community outreach programme which includes sporting activities for both kids and adults with additional support needs.

The spokesman added: “The club will attempt to complete 5,000 miles in 12 hours to raise funds that will allow St Cadoc’s Youth Club to build their own sporting facilities, thereby ensuring a bright future for the entire community to continue their sports growth and development and every pound of support will help accelerate the club’s ability to deliver these programmes throughout our community.”

Over £2000 has been raised since the club’s JustGiving page was set up.
