THREE ambitious young people are aiming to help shape their nation’s future after tasting success in East Renfrewshire’s Scottish Youth Parliament elections.

More than 1,200 young people across the area cast their votes, using the single transferable voting system.

And there was good news for Jack Dudgeon, Donald Maclean and Marissa Roxburgh when the results were announced at an event at Eastwood House.

Both Jack and Donald were successfully elected in the Eastwood constituency, while Marissa was elected in Renfrewshire South.

They will serve two-year terms as Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs).

Caroline Innes, returning officer for the East Renfrewshire elections, said: “Being elected as a MSYP is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the issues affecting the lives of the young people they represent in East Renfrewshire. I wish our newly-elected members the best.”
