SUPPORT poured in for a coffee morning at Barrhead’s Salvation Army hall at the weekend.

People of all ages went along to the event to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Major Gill Wilkins, leader at Barrhead’s Salvation Army base, said: “It went very well considering there were a number of other events going on in Barrhead that day. A lot of people came along.

“As people know, the Salvation Army organise quite a lot of events and we held this one to raise money to put towards what the charity does here in Barrhead and around the country.

“We are going to have a coffee morning, hopefully, on the first Saturday of every month, certainly up until autumn time.

“It is lovely just to see people come along for a chat and to meet people who they don’t otherwise get to meet.”

Working alongside with Douglas Yates, chairman of the Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership, the Salvation Army will be hosting an afternoon tea in April to raise cash towards the costs of installing a defibrillator on its premises.

“We are hoping to hold an afternoon tea with a concert next month to raise funds for a defibrillator,” Gill added. “It will be on April 13.

“Having a defibrillator at the Salvation Army is a great idea and it will be inside the premises.

“I think it will be a ‘turn up’ event but we will advertise soon, so that people know the details.”
