A LIFE-SAVING piece of medical kit has been kindly donated by developers to a Renfrewshire village.

Barratt West Scotland and David Wilson Homes handed over a defibrillator to local councillor Scott Kerr at their development in Weirs Wynd, Brookfield.

It is proposed the new defibrillator be located at the Carrick Centre in nearby Houston.

And the vital device will be accessible to everyone within the local community.

Conservative man Cllr Kerr said: “The Houston Community Council has been hoping to add a defibrillator to the community for some time and we are delighted that Barratt Homes was able to help.

“I have no doubt that this defibrillator will be a valued addition to the community.

“On behalf of Houston, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Barratt Homes.”

A defibrillator is an essential, life-saving device that gives a high-energy electric shock to the heart during a cardiac arrest, and it is seen as crucial that all communities have easy access to the piece of equipment.

Craig McFarlane, construction director at Barratt West Developments and David Wilson Homes, said: “It’s really important for us to support the communities that we are building in.

“When we heard the Houston community was looking for a defibrillator we knew we had to try and help.

“We have defibrillators on every single one of our construction sites and all of our first aiders within the business are trained on how to use them.

“We strive to put health and safety at work at the forefront of everything we do.

“We want to project that message into the communities we operate in.”
