Funding for councils and transparency in the budget process was raised as councillors had a heated debate in the City Chambers

Frank McAveety, Labour group leader, said the SNP had failed to stand up the the Scottish Government and Finance Secretary, Derek Mackay on behalf of the city.

He said: “The elephant in the room is the chronic underfunding of Scottish Local government.” He said that £233 has been lost for every Glaswegian over the last ten years in Scottish Government cuts to the council budget.

He added: “The SNP in Glasgow is silent on that matter.”

The Greens wanted the budget vote delayed until next week to allow time for all plans to be scrutinised in greater detail.

Martin Bartos, Green councillor, said: The public deserve a proper opportunity to scrutinise the impact of the proposals.”
