YOUNGSTERS were able to learn about the wonders of our solar system as an East Renfrewshire venue hosted a stargazing event.

Dozens of people headed along to the event in the pavilion at Rouken Glen Park on Saturday, where they enjoyed a presentation by the Astronomical Society of Glasgow.

Chris O’Kane and his colleagues wowed the audience with their knowledge on astronomy, including how the solar system works.

The Astronomical Society of Glasgow is the largest astronomical society in Scotland and is dedicated to promoting an interest in astronomy.

It has been in existence for more than a century, with members sharing their knowledge with other groups across the country.

The group, which is also a charitable organisation, is involved in a number of outreach events, bringing astronomy to the people of East Renfrewshire and further afield.

Members host regular meetings for the public at Glasgow Botanic Gardens, where visitors can use a number of telescopes to enjoy a close-up look at the moon, our nearest planets and distant stars.
