MSP Maurice Golden has highlighted the success of Barrhead’s Include Me 2 Club founders Ashley and Paul McIlvenney in the Scottish Parliament.

Ashley and Paul were awarded the East Renfrewshire Council’s Provost Award for their contribution to the local economy and Mr Golden has praised them through a motion in Holyrood.

Mr Golden, who represents the West Scotland Region, also presented the pair with a Points of Light award from the Prime Minister last year, was delighted to recognise their latest success and has invited MSP’s from all parties to join him.

The last nine years have seen the Include Me 2 Club help more and more people with disabilities or additional support needs across East Renfrewshire, with the club now supporting 150 members every week.

Mr Golden said: “I was delighted to hear Ashley and Paul had won the Provost’s Award, it is hard to think of more worthy recipients of this honour.

“The Include Me 2 Club carries out tremendous work all year round, helping some of the most vulnerable in our society feel more included.

“The organisation is going from strength to strength and that is testament to the dedication shown by Ashley and Paul and all the volunteers who selfishly give up their time to help those in need.

“I’m sure this won’t be the last award Ashley and Paul receive and I am pleased I could mark their success in this way.”

The couple told the Barrhead News they were "totally overwhelmed" after winning the Provost Award.

Ashley added: "It’s lovely and makes everything we do feel more worthwhile.

“From the minute we set the club up, it has just been a joy. We’ve got a lot of opportunities ahead and I know 2019 is going to be a great year.”
