POLICE have confirmed the identity of the couple who were found dead in their house yesterday morning. 

Derek Hurles and Nicole McGeachin were found by emergency services in their home at Stoneside Square, Thornliebank, at around 10am. 

The young couple's death is being treated by police as unexplained by officers.

According to Derek's social media account, he hails from Erskine.

Nicole, a former pupil at Shawlands Academy, and Derek, who worked for building firm CCG, are thought to have been together for more than three years. 

One resident, who has lived in the area for 10 years, described how his fellow neighbours are “devastated” at the news.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: “It was a man and a woman who lived there. They’ve been there for about a year, but I hadn’t seen them in about three days.

“The woman struggled with her health.

“The guy was a bricklayer and a good worker.”

A police spokeswoman said: “At 10.10am, police were called to reports of concern for a person in Stoneside Square, Thornliebank.

“Emergency services attended and on arrival officers discovered two bodies within a property.

“They remain at the scene to establish the circumstances. The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were asked to help the police at 11.27am.

A spokesman said: “Firefighters and a scientific adviser carried out atmospheric monitoring tests.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
