TALENTED musicians who are happy to blow their own trumpet can get in tune with Barrhead Burgh Band in 2019.
Band practice takes place on Tuesdays, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at the Salvation Army hall in Mill Street, Paisley, with lots to look forward to now a new year has arrived.
First instituted as Levern Instrumental Band, the name was changed to Barrhead Instrumental Band and later still became known as Barrhead Brass Band.
When Barrhead was granted a Burgh Charter in 1894, the group was soon being referred to as the Burgh Brass Band.
As a result of an economic downturn in the 1920s and 30s, the band was forced to disband in 1932. However, in 1949, after an absence of 17 years, Barrhead Burgh Band was revived.
Following local government reorganisation in 1977, Barrhead became part of the new Renfrew District Council and the band became known as Barrhead and District Band, before reverting back to Barrhead Burgh Band in 1995.
