A MAJOR energy supplier is encouraging customers in East Renfrewshire to apply for a £140 reduction on their winter heating bills through the Warm Home Discount.

With the initiative set to close to new applicants in the coming fortnight, SSE wants customers who think they might be eligible to get in touch as soon as possible to claim their discount.

As part of the government-funded scheme, SSE has made millions of pounds available to customers to help with their heating bills over the winter.

Customers may be eligible for the £140 discount if they or their partner are in receipt of certain benefits, suffer from a long-term illness, are disabled or on a low income. However, there are only a limited number of grants available.

Gareth Wood, customer service operations director at SSE, said: “We know the winter months can be concerning for some households as the colder nights set in and the heating comes on.

“There’s a discount of £140 available for customers who receive certain qualifying benefits or who have a low income. However, there is a limit on the number of people that can receive the discount and applications are due to close soon.

“If a customer thinks they might fit the description, they should get in touch as soon as possible to make sure they can get this help.”
