YOUNG musicians from Levern Valley Community Brass gave an impressive demonstration of their skills at their annual awards concert last month.

Held in Carlibar Primary School, the show was followed by a presentation ceremony in which the year’s key players were singled out for praise.

The youngsters showed why their musical director Brian Deans was so proud of them, with a selection of music to demonstrate the range of their collective musical talents.

The appreciative audience thoroughly enjoyed their performance, as they did for the supporting musicians, the Johnstone Brass Band.

The Musician of the Year award was won by Erin Brown, with Joel McNamara picking up the award for Players’ Player of the Year.

Scott Coyle won the Most Improved Player accolade and Euan Speirs won the Most Promising Player award.

It has been another good year for the band with a lot of progress being shown in individual’s confidence and musical competency.

Presenting the awards on the night, former councillor Douglas Yates said: “Great credit must go to the band musical director Mr Brian Deans for the way he has worked unstintingly to improve all the young players and make rehearsals enjoyable for them.

“Under his direction, the band has been going for 10 years now and I have a great deal of admiration for what Brian has achieved with these young players.

“They are all are a credit to him.”

The band, originally formed in 2007, did well at the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships in Perth last month, where musicians won another Gold Award.
