FOOTBALL pitches at a Barrhead sport centre are set for a boost thanks to a new grant from the Scottish Government.

East Renfrewshire Council has received £6,000 from the Making Places initiative to go towards improvement work at the Dunterlie Resource Centre.

The grant comes as part of £281,000 handed out to projects across Scotland.

The council says it will involve the community in a workshop next year to decide how best to spend the extra funds.

A council spokesperson said: “We are delighted to receive £6,000 from the Scottish Government through the Making Places initiative. This fund will give residents the opportunity to play a key part in redesigning the outdoor areas around Dunterlie Resource Centre.

“It is important any redevelopment of this area meets the needs of the local people, and we will be holding a design workshop in early 2019 as the first stage of this important process.”
