BARRHEAD Travel has been recognised for the charity work undertaken by its employees.
The holiday operator was singled out in the Scottish Parliament as a ‘great business success’ story by local MSP Tom Arthur.
Mr Arthur, MSP for Renfrewshire South, lodged a motion honouring the company for its Just a Drop campaign, which raised £9,000 for a fresh water tank in a primary school in Songeni, Kenya.
Employees across the business devised a calendar of activity to raise money for the fresh water and sanitation charity.
From running marathons to hosting race nights, each branch arranged its own fundraising missions and encouraged its customers to get involved.
This year, Barrhead Travel pledged its continued support for the charity and will aim to triple its fundraising in 2019 in order to build a health centre for a village in Uganda.
Sharon Munro, president of Barrhead Travel, said: “We feel very fortunate to be in a position where we can give back.
“We are honoured to receive the parliamentary motion.”
Mr Arthur said: “As well as being a great business success story, Barrhead Travel’s fundraising efforts benefit communities both at home and in some of the world’s poorest areas.”
