Members of a Barrhead church are rejoicing after the community rallied round to support their latest fundraising event.

People of all ages headed along to the United Reformed Church on Saturday for an autumn fayre which featured a host of stalls and games, as well as the chance to enjoy good company.

A raffle filled with generous donations from locals also proved popular, while delicious home-baking kept guests happy as they browsed the crafts and goods on offer.

The event was initially organised as a simple fundraiser but has proved to be a lifesaver for the small congregation after cornicing began falling down in the Arthurlie Street church, forcing members to worship in the church hall instead.

Now, thanks to the generosity of the local community, which saw an impressive total of £800 banked from the event, faith has been restored and repairs will be able to take place.

Church secretary Rena Hannah said she has been overwhelmed by the continued support from the people of Barrhead.

She added: “We have a small but active membership at the church and are ever grateful for the support of the community.

“We had an excellent turnout and this year was one of the best financial results – and that is down to the people of Barrhead.

“Our events always have such a friendly atmosphere and are such a big success, thanks to all of the donations we receive.”
