The search is on for East Renfrewshire’s Citizen of the Year.

East Renfrewshire Council’s Provost Award honours people who have made a positive contribution to the local community – giving local residents the chance to say a well-earned thank you to the area’s army of unsung heroes and heroines.

Provost Jim Fletcher told the Barrhead News: “We know there are many individuals working tirelessly in our community – day in, day out.

“That’s why we are appealing for residents to nominate their citizen of the year for this award.

“It always gives me great pleasure to hear about the fantastic work going on in our communities.

“It is one of the many things that makes East Renfrewshire such a fantastic place to live in, work in and visit.”

Last year, Barrhead resident Anne Marie Kennedy, who runs her own volunteer-led charity East Renfrewshire Community Transport, scooped the award for her dedication and exemplary efforts to assist people across the area.

Nominations for the 2018 Provost’s Award can be made online via the council’s website.

The form can also be printed off and filled in, or copies can be collected from the council offices in Barrhead and Eastwood.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, December 7, and the winner will be presented with the award at a ceremony to be held at the council chambers on Wednesday, December 19.

Anyone who would like more information or is keen to submit a nomination is encouraged to go online at www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/provostaward2018.
