TOURISTS in Barrhead would see new sights, it was claimed in 2008, thanks to a new partnership that aimed to boost visitor experiences in the area.

The East Renfrewshire Tourism Partnership was launched this week 10 years ago at the Mearns Castle Golf Academy.

Representatives from local industry, East Renfrewshire Council, VisitScotland and economic development convener Councillor Tony Buchanan all attended.

Guest speaker was David Adams McGilp, regional director of VisitScotland, who explained how the partnership would oversee product development, quality and standards, innovation, best practice, local marketing and investment for the future.

He said at the time: “By developing business, this partnership can help bring jobs to East Renfrewshire, boost visitor numbers and increase revenue.”
