A WAR memorial in a Lanarkshire town has been vandalised less than a week after Remembrance Sunday.

The monument in Coatbridge's Langloan area, next to West End Park, was targetted by vile vandals.

Republican slogans were scrawled all over the memorial and nearby church at some point on Saturday - although it is not too clear when.

"A week on from the 100th anniversary of WW1 and a lovely service where all religious leaders & organisations paid respect to the many men, of all faiths and none, who are remembered here."

It's not the first time the town's cenotaph has been targetted, following a similar attack in 2016.

A North Lanarkshire Council spokesperson said: "The mindless vandalism to the war memorial is a disgrace and we would urge anyone with information to contact police

"We will ensure it is cleaned up as soon as possible."

Police Scotland have confirmed they are aware of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
