POLICE are appealing for information after a man was hospitalised following an incident in the early hours of this morning.
The 50-year-old victim was walking with his friend along Main Street, Prestwick, at around 2.15am when they came across a disturbance outside popular bar The Buf between two groups of men.
The man was assaulted by one of the men involved and fell to the ground where he struck his head on the pavement.
He was rushed to Ayr Hospital and medical staff are describing his condition as serious.
The suspect is described as a white man wearing a white shirt and dark trousers.
Detectives are treating the incident as serious assault and are appealing to any witness to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Barry Walker from Ayr CID said: “A man is lying seriously injured in hospital and it is absolutely vital that we trace the individual responsible.
“Main Street would have been busy at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed a disturbance, or anything at all which could be of significance, to please get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Ayr CID via 101, quoting incident number 0658 of Sunday 18 November 2018. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
