MORE than £10,000 was raised for Cancer Research at a charity barn dance held at silage contractor Andrew McAllister’s Blairmore Farm, near Drymen, earlier this month. During the event, an auction was held which saw a top price of £4300 being reached by Robert Denholm, of Wester Lochdrum Farm, Bonnybridge, for a pick of one heifer out of 200 from David Hamilton’s dairy herd at Meldrum Farm, Doune. In total, £10,922 was raised on the evening, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.

Speaking of the night's events, Mr Denholm said: "It was fantastic to be involved in this event and all credit must go to Andrew McAllister for organising it, as we wouldn't be able to do it without him. He puts in so much effort and he deserves high praise and recognition for that."

"It was fantastic to be involved in this event and purchase such a high quality heifer from the Hamilton family and I am so pleased Andrew managed to raise so much money on the evening.

"My mum died of cancer a few years ago and so that's why we went along on the evening, as she always supported the charity and we have continued her direct debit payment every month since she passed away," added Mr Denholm. "We were also overwhelmed by the generosity of the Hamilton family and they were so accommodating when we went along to pick out our heifer and we are very pleased with her. There aren't a lot of people who would happily give away such a fine animal like that, so it just shows what great people they are.

"A big well done must go to everyone involved, especially Andrew."
