EMPLOYEES at McDonald’s left burgers and fries behind for a day to help clean up an East Renfrewshire street.

Thornliebank residents were asked to vote in an online poll on the area they thought was most in need of a spruce-up.

And they chose Orchard Park Avenue and its surrounding area.

The team from the nearby McDonald’s restaurant, who ran the online poll in partnership with mummy blogger Susan K Mann, then launched a clean-up operation.

Participants collected 13 bags of rubbish as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s anti-littering campaign Clean Up Scotland.

Jim McLean, McDonald’s Thornliebank franchisee, said: “I was really proud to see everyone come together to help tidy up Orchard Park Avenue and the surrounding area.

“It’s a key priority of ours to ensure the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.”

Derek Robertson, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, added: “At a time when litter levels are at their worst in a decade, the support from McDonald’s crew members and customers is invaluable.

“Their efforts help to raise awareness of the litter that surrounds us and the fact that we can all take action to prevent it.”
