ARTISTS and poets of all ages are invited to submit works inspired by the First World War for a new competition.

This Sunday will mark 100 years since the end of the war – a conflict from which hundreds of Barrhead and Neilston men never returned.

The brutality and horror of the war inspired an entire generation of poets, resulting in some of the most moving poetry and prose of the 20th century.

Now, to help commemorate the centenary and celebrate the peace and freedom we enjoy today, Neilston War Memorial Association is organising a poetry, art and song contest.

Entries can be inspired by any element of the 100 years commemoration but must be focused locally on the Neilston and Barrhead district to qualify.

Judges are asking for either a piece of art (drawing, painting, etc), a poem or a song.

The three age categories are primary five to S2, S3 to S6 and adult.
Entrants should state their full name, age, address, category and school or group.

Prizes of £50 will be awarded to each category winner, along with £50 worth of art supplies for their school or group.
The closing date for entries is Sunday, November 11.

Submissions can be posted to The Neilston War Memorial Association, 65 Doublehedges Road, Neilston, G78 3JQ.
