BARRHEAD is in for a treat – and maybe some tricks – this weekend as Hallowe’en comes to town.

In its second year, the Big Barrhead Hallowe’en Parade is set to spill out into the streets on Saturday, bringing a devilish display of events with it.

Staged by local Business Improvement District (BID) organisation All About Barrhead, the centrepiece of the event will see a mass parade of community groups dressed as creepy characters and freaky figures weave its way round town from 5.30pm.

However, the frightening festivities are set to start even earlier, with plenty of activities taking place across Barrhead from noon.

This year, those who have always dreamed of packing a bag and running off to the circus can get essential advice on how to do so at a circus skills workshop which will be teaching visitors all the tricks of the trade.

Meanwhile, the car park at Tesco will host some movie magic as an outdoor cinema screening of child-friendly Hallowe’en short films takes place, alongside the chance to carve the perfect pumpkin.

And, from 4pm, Community Square will transform into a freak-tastic funfair, filled with live acts and fairground rides, before the parade rolls in and four lucky trick or treaters are crowned as winners of the costume competition.

The free event will be rounded off with a spook-tacular fireworks extravaganza which will light up the skies at 6.45pm.

Andy Dunlop, BID manager, said: “We were blown away with how much the community got behind the event last year and are confident the 2018 event will be even bigger and better than before. We’ve got almost twice as many people signed up to take part in this year’s parade.”
