It was a wet but successful day for a number of Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire cyclists at the Scottish District Hill Climb Championships in Johnstone at the weekend.

The time trial, which began on Auchenlodment Road near Keanie Park and finished 1.8 miles up the road towards Gleniffer Braes Country Park, welcomed riders from around the country with everyone doing well in the wet and windy conditions.

The Championships, which moves around the country each year, was organised by local rider Stephen Blom this year and had five categories with a boys U16 race running alongside the male and female senior competitions, a veteran’s category and a team prize.

Jamie Thomson from Johnstone Jets, a group of youngsters from Johnstone Wheelers Club, bagged an impressive third place in the under 16 category with a time of 08:01:86 behind Lewis Anderson, from Fusion Triathlon Club, and Murray Lawson, from East Kilbride Racing Club.

The Wheelers, who were founded back in 1926 and play an important part in Scottish Cycling, kindly allowed the event to be run from their clubhouse as they finished third in the team event with a combined time of 23:43:08.

Lynsey Curran, from Uplawmoor, finished second in the woman’s race with a time of 08:20:03 behind Sharon Bird, from Edinburgh Cycling Club.

Event organiser Stephen said: “We would like to thank those who attended our event and to everyone who has helped at all the events this season.”
