A TALENTED team of amateur performers are set to put their best foot forward for their latest show.

Members of the Minerva Club will perform Footloose, based on the 1980s hit film, at Eastwood Theatre from November 13-17.

Among the cast is 25-year-old Andrew Scott, from Renfrew, who will be adopting different personalities during each performance by playing the roles of Cowboy Bob and high school student Lyle.

Andrew said: “I’m excited to be back on stage. This is a great show and I can’t wait to take part and show off my dancing skills.”

Also taking part is 29-year-old Renfrew teacher Colin Fyfe, who plays Bickle and will be joined on stage by his brother Gary.

Colin said: “Minerva is such a friendly and supportive club that makes everyone feel at home.”

Footloose tells the story of city boy Ren, who is forced to move to a small mid-western town and quickly discovers it is illegal to dance or listen to rock music there.

With the help of his new friend Willard Hewitt and defiant teen Ariel Moore, he tries to loosen up this conservative town, where the formidable Reverend Moore is determined to keep things the way they are.

Colette Dunsmore, Minerva Club president, said: “Many people will remember the film Footloose and we’re delighted to be bringing it to the stage.

“It’s a show that’s full of fun and memorable songs which weave the plot together at breakneck speed.

“I would encourage anyone to come along and enjoy this multi-layered and emotional production.”

The Minerva Club, which has been performing since 1927, is dedicated to enabling people from all walks of life and across generations to enjoy musical theatre, learn new skills and perform on stage.

Tickets for Footloose at Eastwood Park Theatre, in Giffnock, are priced from £13 to £18 and are available from any cast member.
