A PAIR of East Renfrewshire councillors have been nominated for prestigious honours.

Angela Convery and David Macdonald are among the finalists at the inaugural Councillor Awards.

The contest, organised by policy information service LGiU Scotland, aims to reward elected members who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Councillor Convery, who represents Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor for the SNP, has been shortlisted in the Urban Community Champion category.

Meanwhile, Councillor Macdonald, who is an Independent member for Clarkston, Netherlee and Williamwood, is in the running for the Innovation and Digital prize, for those who have been particularly innovative or inclusive in helping to roll out digital solutions.

The winners will be declared at a ceremony in Edinburgh City Chambers on November 29.

A spokesperson for LGiU Scotland said: “We want to reward those councillors who go the extra mile for their constituents.

“There are eight award categories, celebrating the varied work of councillors. Anyone can nominate a serving councillor – members of the public, councillors and council officers. The only rule is that you can’t nominate yourself.”
