BARRHEAD High’s website, commended by school inspectors in 2008, was the creation of a fifth-year pupil.

Computer wizard Adam Brook, 16, was asked by teachers to design the site when they discovered his gift for all things IT.

Staff member Kay Crawford said at the time: “Adam’s a genius. He’s been designing websites for years. He absolutely eats, lives and sleeps computers and is able to do anything we ask him to do. Nothing’s ever a bother for him, everything’s so easy.

“He’s totally self-taught and is very patient when showing other people what to do.”

She added: “The HMIE inspectors were in last week and the lead inspector was very impressed with the website, so Adam’s getting commendations from government officials as well.”

Headteacher Morag Towndrow also praised Adam’s work.

She said: “We are really proud that one of our students, rather than a commercial business, has developed our website.

“Adam’s skills are amazing. His next job is to help pass on his skills to younger students.”

Bright spark Adam explained that he had been interested in computers from a very young age and had got his first for Christmas back in 2000.

He added: “I would rush home from school every day to use it and, since then, I’ve enjoyed exploring new ways to use it, as there are always new challenges out there.”
