A FANTASTIC community effort led to an afternoon of food and fun, as well as hundreds of pounds being raised for charity.
Home bakers and local businesses provided an abundance of cakes, scones, sandwiches and drinks for an afternoon tea at Neilston Bowling Club in aid of Beatson Cancer Charity.
Event organiser Lorraine Young said: “My friend Tracy and I decided to do it because a friend of ours is going through treatment for breast cancer right now.
“It was meant to be quite a small event but so many people were interested that it just grew. Near enough every business in Barrhead contributed something.
“We’ve not counted all the money yet but I think we’ve raised over £900, which is good. It was a very busy day and we sold everything.
“We had a lot of help – everybody chipped in – and I owe thanks to a lot of people. We’ll be organising another event soon.”
