GLENN Middleton is living the dream after suffering the nightmare of being dumped.
The 18-year-old admitted he was left in tears after being told at the end of last season by Norwich City that they didn’t want him.
On Thursday night, the winger made a big contribution after being sent on against Villarreal in the Europa League. Not bad for someone without a club just a few months ago.
Middleton said: “I think it has been a case of taking it bit by bit. You can dream about how you want it to go and it to be fair it hasn’t gone that differently from the way I would have wanted. I am very lucky.
“You have to back yourself. If you don’t then it’s pointless turning up. You have to show you’re capable of competing with the big boys at the club.
“I want to be consistent. It’s about keeping my levels up as high as I can and all the time.
“It was a great feeling when the manager said I would be part of the first team squad. But it was just the start. It’s obvious to say that but it’s true. I want to keep kicking on now.”
Middleton does not lack confidence, as he showed in Spain when he played a big part in Kyle Lafferty’s goal.
He’s a lad with a big talent and was trusted by Steven Gerrard to make an impact. He didn’t let down his manager.
Middleton said: “That’s the kind of player I am. If I’m not going to get on and be positive and showing what I can do then it’s pointless putting me on. I am a direct player. I like to get on the ball and make things happen.”
“Being a fan has given me that extra boost to push on.”
