Two men who died at the weekend in what is thought could be a drug-related death have been named.

Brothers John and Scott Mitchell were found dead on Sunday evening in Newton Mearns after cops attended two homes just yards from each other.

The two residences have been identified locally as belonging to the pair's family, with 29-year-old John found in a house on Castle Road and Scott found moments later in a flat on Moorhill Crescent.

Police have confirmed they attended a property in Castle Road at around 3.15pm on Sunday where they found a 29-year-old who had died.

After this discovery, officers continued to a property in Moorhill Crescent, also in Newton Mearns, where they found the body of a 28-year-old man.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 3.15pm on Sunday, August 5, police received a report that a 29-year-old man had died within a property in Castle Road, Newton Mearns. Emergency services attended and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.

"On making further enquiries officers also attended at a property in Moorhill Crescent, also in Newton Mearns.  On arrival, officers discovered the body of a 28 year old man.

"A police investigation is underway to establish how both men died and enquiries are ongoing.  One line of inquiry is that the deaths may be drug related."
