Two men have died in East Renfrewshire in what police believe may be drug related deaths. 

The men, who were found within separate houses, were found on Sunday evening in Newton Mearns. 

Police attended a propert in Castle Road at around 3.15pm where they found a 29-year-old who had died. 

After this discovery, officers continued to a property in Moorhill Crescent, also in Newton Mearns, where they found the body of a 28-year-old man. 

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 3.15pm on Sunday, August 5, police received a report that a 29-year-old man had died within a property in Castle Road, Newton Mearns. Emergency services attended and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.  

"On making further enquiries officers also attended at a property in Moorhill Crescent, also in Newton Mearns.  On arrival, officers discovered the body of a 28 year old man. 

"A police investigation is underway to establish how both men died and enquiries are ongoing.  One line of inquiry is that the deaths may be drug related."
