BARRHEAD took a step back in time over the weekend to the ‘good old days’ before video games and traffic congestion, when children played safely in the streets.
Street Play is an initiative, set up by SNP councillors Annette Ireland and Angela Convery, that aims to help children see the fun and benefits of outdoor play.
Roads were closed off around South Park Avenue for the duration of the trial and it is hoped this will be the first of many such events.
Councillor Convery said: “It was fantastic to see so many children, as well as their parents and grandparents, out enjoying the sunshine and having so much fun playing all the old games.
“Residents from all parts of Barrhead came to join in. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part and helped to make the day a great success.”
