Dozens of families gathered at a Barrhead care home on Saturday as it hosted a summer fete.

The morning rain did not dampen spirits at the Parkhouse Manor Care Home, in Darnley Road, as friends and family braved the weather to have an enjoyable day out.

Face-painting, a barbecue, balloon sculpting and a good old fashioned sing-song kept everyone entertained.

There were also a number of stalls where lucky winners walked away with prizes such as a flatscreen television.

Karen Goodluck, centre manager at Parkhouse Manor, was delighted to see so many people coming along to support the event.

She said: “This is the third time we have run a summer fete and this was easily the most successful.

“There was a really high turnout from local families. The whole place was jam-packed and the garden was full as well.

“Everyone loved it, especially the residents. Some families have called us up to tell us how much they appreciated it.”

After the impressive turnout at the weekend, bosses at the care home have started preparations for another open day that will take place later in the year.

Karen added: “We are just a wee community, so it is good to bring in families to that. It makes for a very healthy environment.

“We’ll be running something similar at Christmas time but are already planning for next year’s summer fete as this one went so well. It was definitely the best yet.”
