BARRHEAD families have been exploring the great outdoors as part of a project which aims to bring the community together.

Members of the Dunterlie Green Gigglers meet regularly to take part in outdoor play, gardening and learning sessions tailored for children.

The sessions have been taking place at the Dunterlie Resource Centre, with more set to be held over the coming months.

There was plenty of fun to be had, with the green-fingered youngsters putting their newfound gardening skills to good use.

Those who made it along helped with the replanting of potted plants, giving them plenty of practise for time spent in the nearby community garden.

After the soil had been cleaned off, children and their guardians were then given a lesson in making cuttings for the garden, as well as starting off some bug watching and doing some craft work.

The community classes are run as part of the Dunterlie Our Community group, which is dedicated to forging links between those living in the area.

Groups such as the Green Gigglers are supported by East Renfrewshire Council’s Communities Team, Dunterlie Allotments, Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire (VAER) and Young Enterprise Scotland.

The idea of a green children’s group has been driven by what the community wanted to see in their area, after work started in May 2017.

Since the Corra Foundation’s People in Place programme began in East Renfrewshire, community co-ordinator Laura Mathieson has been working in partnership with local people and organisations to create spaces for people to get together in the Dunterlie area.
