BORROWERS in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire face a tough time after it was revealed average credit scores in both areas trail behind other parts of the UK.

Postcodes covering Paisley, as well as the G78 grouping which takes in Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor, are in the second lowest bracket of credit score compiled by finance experts at TotallyMoney.

Credit scores represent the risk a lender takes when allowing people to borrow money.

The higher the credit score, the lower the risk to the lender.

Various criteria are used to calculate scores, including payment history, the amount of money owed and the types of credit used.

A low credit score indicates to lenders that someone is a high-risk borrower.

TotallyMoney has revealed the best average credit score locations across the UK, with no postcodes in either Renfrewshire or East Renfrewshire making it to the top 20.

The highest credit scores in Renfrewshire can be found in parts of Bridge of Weir, Bishopton, Houston, Howwood and Lochwinnoch.

The G76 postcode area, which covers Busby, Clarkston, Eaglesham, Stamperland and Waterfoot, boasts the highest credit score in East Renfrewshire.

Similarly high credit ratings were found in Newton Mearns.

Across the whole of Scotland, Aberdeen was shown to be the area with the highest average credit score, while Dundee had the worst result.
