A CLEAN-UP operation at a stretch of water that had become an eyesore has been hailed as a success.

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to tackle rubbish dumped in the Levern Water, on the outskirts of Barrhead.

Jim McLean, franchisee at the McDonald’s restaurant in Silverburn shopping centre, was joined by his staff, as well as Councillor Rhiannon Spear, who represents Greater Pollok, for the event.

The 40-strong group recovered numerous bikes and shopping trolleys from the water, along with around 60 bags of rubbish.

The event is one of a number of McDonald’s clean-ups taking place as part of its Clean Up Scotland anti-littering campaign.

Mr McLean said: “I was really proud to see everyone come together and help tidy up Househill Park.

“It’s a key priority of ours to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

“As a business, we understand the important role that we play in making the area a cleaner place for everyone. We’re also making improvements in-store, with all restaurants in Scotland having front-of-house recycling facilities in which all packaging, including paper cups, can be separated in order for them to be recycled.”
